Donnie Bennett
Songwriter. Producer. DJ. Remixer. Entertainer. Donnie Bennett is a lifelong Rhode Islander who's spent over 4 decades navigating the Music, Radio and Entertainment Industries in one form or another. His dream of being a Radio DJ started when he was a small child. When his loving mother gifted him his first turntable and a set of vinyl records at the age of 9, he was sold! Then a visit to a local radio station at the age of 11 fueled his dreams even more. Donnie pursued and achieved his dreams of being an on-air talent, but then he moved the goalposts. His passion turned to production. And that led to an illustrious career working with top-level talent. In the middle of a storied career he purposefully dipped out on the industry to pursue other interests, including a more traditional lifestyle and his faith. But he never stopped writing, creating or achieving his ambitions, or manifesting music and positivity.
It all started in 1985
In 1985 Donnie got paid to DJ for a crowd for the very first time, started working in radio, had his first nightclub appearance at Providence's iconic Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel and opened for Hip-Hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh after winning a multi-city East Coast "King of Rap" battle competition. And he did all of that at the age of 15.
Radio
At WWKX-FM (KIX 106) in Providence he went from intern to on-air host and Mixshow DJ, and in 1990, at 20, became the youngest commercial radio Program Director in America. His radio résumé also includes WFHN, WQGN, WQSX, WJMN, WPRO, XM Radio (National Mixshow DJ), CBS Radio and a SUPERADIO syndicated mixshow. At one point Donnie's mixing talents were a regular fixture on over 100 North American radio stations.
Hosting & Public Events
He regularly, if not constantly, performed at countless popular nightlife and stadium venues from Providence to Boston and New York, with long weekly residencies in the Providence market at Club Shalimar (2 years); Cahoots in the Providence Marriott (4 years); Gerardo's (7 years); and many more. By 2010 Donnie already had 25 years of event hosting under his belt. Everything from car shows and comedy events to beauty pageants and concerts, or anything in between — being on stage with a mic has always been like a second home to Donnie. From 2010 to 2017 he then created and hosted a series of popular comedy events - where he found a way to host, entertain and DJ throughout different parts of the well-choreographed show. Weddings also became a big part of his event schedule. Today Donnie still accepts bookings as a Professional DJ for private events.
Remixer & Producer
Donnie began remixing for the internationally recognized remix and production service, X-MiX, in 1992. He rose to become Executive Producer in 1998, overseeing all relationships and promotional alliances with every major record label in the United States. He also led their elite team of professional remixers and producers. He had a hand in the production and promotion of over 1,500 major record label recordings and remixes, including the pressing of Armand Van Helden's album "2 Future 4 U." Donnie's duties extended to oversight of artwork, A&R and voiceover work. His production skills have even earned him a movie credit for the 1999 film 200 Cigarettes, a movie that Donnie could barely stand to watch. But that's show biz!
Original Music
In July of 2026, Donnie created his own indie imprint (record label) — Superhero Music. After a lifetime of producing for others, Donnie began releasing his first set of original songs, leading up to his 2027 soundtrack-style album: THE DONNIE BENNETT EXPERIENCE: AD⚡️HD. See the release schedule.
